Dr. DesMarais is now at a new location! 427 Yale Ave., Claremont.
Dr. DesMarais maintains a private practice as a clinical psychologist and is licensed as a Psychologist in California and Washington. In addition, she is also licensed in California as an Education Psychologist and has over thirty years of experience within educational and clinical settings dealing with the needs of children, adolescents and their families.
She sees patients of all ages and also has the ability to serve Spanish-speaking populations. While her patients come to her largely by referral she is a member of most health insurance panels.
Dr. DesMarais clinical orientation encompasses Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with emphasis upon short-term, goal-oriented treatment. She specializes in:
- Anxiety and depressive disorders
- Quality of life issues/ Life planning/ Life coaching
- Adult and child attention deficit disorders
- Child and family therapy, including children of divorcing parents
- Post-traumatic stress disorders
- Woman’s issues
- Stress reduction
- Issues of loss and grief
As part of her clinical practice and as part of her pro bono work within the community, she has also provided psychological and counseling services to populations as diverse as:
- Homeless women
- Battered women
- Teenage mothers
- Children of migrant workers
Dr. DesMarais has written and directed local and nationally funded demonstration programs which: formulated protocols to help regular classroom teachers work successfully with students with special needs; and developed an integrated approach to the application of extensive social and counseling services for families at risk of disruption. Following upon this work, she has helped many children of divorcing parents survive the breakup and assisted their parents in working cooperatively with and for their children.
Dr. DesMarais was Chair of the Advisory Board of the Children’s Services Unit at Casa Colina Rehabilitation Hospital. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at California State Polytechnic University, the University of Redlands and the University of La Verne.
